Sugar Parks – Strange World

Sugar Parks – Strange World

Sugar Parks is a singer/songwriter from a small town in Southern California called Newbury Park. She always loved music and would sing and play around on a keyboard, but her family couldn’t afford lessons. She went up to San Francisco for college, studied Psychology and took a guitar class as an elective. When she graduated, she moved down to Los Angeles for a relationship that didn’t work out. The songwriting took off from there. Shortly thereafter, she met musician and producer David Mitch Parks at a local karaoke dive bar in L.A. They started making music together and married the following year.

“Strange World was written for Mitch and he decided to produce it. Mitch also plays all the instruments on the track. The song became the lead track on our 4 song EP, “Ruminations”. Sugar Parks: “The song is inspired by struggling to fit in where I came from and coming to the realization that I don’t need to expend so much energy trying to belong. It’s a song about breaking the chains and shedding the layers of what people told you to be directly or indirectly and just being true to yourself, who God made you to be. I believe that we each have something unique to offer this world and that’s why we’re here. We are not like anybody else and like the Bible says in Psalm 139:14 we are fearfully and wonderfully made”

What’s next? She is working on some new music with the Swamp Music Players, an international music collective she has collaborated with in the past. They are talking about making a music video for another track off ‘Ruminations’. They still trying to decide between ‘Crazy for Love’ or ‘Misunderstood’. And there is even more to come. “An old jazzy track I had in a film about 6 years ago called “Something Coming out of the Dark” was just put into another film where I have a role as a lounge singer, so I’ll be distributing that everywhere soon. I also have more songs that I’m looking to get produced hopefully later this year”.
