New Release – Your Divinity (Kiimono Remix) by Electric Sol

Phoenix-based synthpop quintet Electric Sol recently bid farewell to band member Cody Hazelle, who’s leaving the desert for the cooler climes of Boise, Idaho. For live shows, Tanner Smith will be taking over on drums.
“Our new release is a remix of the song that first brought us to the attention of the synthfam. It’s called ‘Your Divinity (Kiimono Remix)’. We’re also releasing a club mix by Kiimono and the original song at the same time, so it’s going to be a three-for-one special. The song comes out on 16th June. A pre-save is available.”
When did you write it?
“I wrote the original ‘Your Divinity’ in the summer of 2020, during the pandemic. I’d go on these long walks through my neighbourhood, listening to instrumental chill music on Sirius XM Radio to see if any of the chord progressions would inspire some lyrics. A song called ‘Push’ by Grennels came on and the first two lines of our song came to me pretty quickly: “Everything about you says/That you’re having one of your best days”. That little spark led me to a story about admiring someone from afar and the bittersweet feeling of unrequited love.”
“The new version came about when a producer we’ve been working with, a kid in Los Angeles who calls himself Kiimono, sent me his idea for a remix. It’s not as dystopian as the original production by Secret Attraction, who’s known for detuning his synths, but I really like that the remix makes the song sound happier than it really is.”
Is the song autobiographical?
“Yes and no. I had a crush on a woman my freshman year in college who I thought was unattainable, and I did think of her when I was writing the lyrics for ‘Your Divinity’. She was out of my league for sure, but, unlike the desperate character in the song, I actually did get to go on a date with her before realizing we weren’t at all compatible.”
What are you hoping to achieve with this release?
“I love putting out remixes because I’m always blown away when someone likes a song of ours so much that they want to put their own spin on it. Plus, while I think all the remixes we’ve authorized stand on their own, they also bring a little more attention to the original track. So I guess we’re hoping that the new version becomes a big summer dance anthem and also that the release brings us some new fans for the original tune.”
