New Release – This to That (EP) by Wilson Getchell
Wilson Getchell, the front man of the eclectic rock band Thirsty Curses, will release his debut solo EP, ‘This To That’, on October 12th.
“I put these recordings together on my own while my band Thirsty Curses was on a short hiatus earlier this year. I think they came out pretty great.”
Consisting of five songs ‘This To That’ showcases Getchell’s songwriting talents and musical versatility, as Getchell explores new sounds and instrumentation untapped in his earlier Thirsty Curses work. As Getchell noted: “With all the Thirsty Curses releases, there’s typically been a focus on recording the songs in the same way we would perform them live. With this project, I was able to throw those concerns out the window and just do whatever I wanted.”
Wilson Getchell, who plays guitar and keyboards in Thirsty Curses, performed all of the instruments on the new EP, with the exception of guest appearances by Jason Froeber who plays saxophone on ‘This Just Might Take Some Time’ and ‘Trauma Queen’, Tee Corbett who plays trumpet on ‘Brand New Nintendo’ and Lodge McCammon who plays cello and bass guitar on ‘Are You Still There?’.
The EP opens with the puerile and playful coming of age tune ‘Brand New Nintendo’, in which Getchell humorously retraces his life’s missteps, and ponders the resulting twists and turns. It’s followed by the Pavement-esque ‘This Just Might Take Some Time’, a cathartic post-breakup anthem with a banging saxophone solo, and then the toe-tapper ‘Trauma Queen’. The EP is rounded out by the existential crisis themed ‘Fifty Straight Nights’ and the ballad ‘Are You Still There?’, an orchestral-ish rearrangement of a tune which previously appeared on Thirsty Curses album ‘To The Ends of The Earth’.
