New Release – The Traveller by Yana

New Release – The Traveller by Yana: Yana is a singer/songwriter from the Czech Republic with an Irish heart. She writes songs that make you think. She has built a name for herself by working with the likes of Liam Ó Maonlaí (Hothouse Flowers) and Colm Mac Con Iomaire (The Frames), who both contributed to songs from Yana’s debut EP ‘Distant Shore’ which was released in 2020. Yana is currently working on her debut album. She already released three singles from the upcoming album. Her new single ‘The Traveller’ will be her last release before the album comes out in Spring.

“The song ‘The Traveller’ is an homage to the late Fergus O’Farrell, frontman of Interference, friend and hero, trying to express the gratitude of having such an inspirational soul in my life. He may no longer be with us but those who knew and loved him are well aware he continues to guide us all.”

“I wrote the lyrics in August 2018 at Folk holidays festival in Namest nad Oslavou (Czech Republic), just as Interference came to play the festival and tour the country after 11 long years. Beautifully poignant time for all involved.”

“I feel very humbled and deeply honoured that Maurice Culligan, keyboard player of Interference, offered to add piano parts to my recordings. This is that kind of offer you cannot shake off!”

“I met Maurice Culligan in February 2017 in Cork after the first celebratory gig to mark the first anniversary of Fergus O’Farrell’s passing and to celebrate his life and work. Myself and Maurice were briefly introduced but didn’t get a chance to chat more there.”

“I wrote the lyrics and had the initial idea for a melody and Maurice came up with that poignant piano arrangement and we decided to leave it just as a piano track with him singing the lead vocals and me on backing vocals.”

“The artwork was made by my good friend Alan Tobin who is also a musician, performing under the moniker ADT. The story behind the artwork is pretty simple yet symbolic because it is a photo of the actual piano that used to belong to Fergus O’Farrell. It was Alan who came up with the idea and I absolutely adore it because it just adds to the overall meaning of the track.”

‘The Traveller’ will be out 2nd February. There is no pre-save link as this is going to be a Bandcamp and Minm music exclusive release.
