New Release – The SunCrashers (album) by Chris Ahlman

Chris Ahlman is a San Francisco Bay Area based singer/songwriter. His unique Americana style can be described as influenced by John Mayer, Neil Young, Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, the Fray, Counting Crows, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Bob Dylan to name a few. Chris plays music full time and logged 107 shows in 2022. He has brought his original sound from New Orleans to Oregon to Nashville and all over California.

Last year Chris got together in Nashville with Grammy winning producer/songwriter/teacher Cliff Goldmacher to record a new album of Chris’ music. This is their third album working together. For about two weeks Cliff and Chris brought together some of the finest studio musicians in the world to record this brand new album. For most of the musicians this is not the first time working on Chris’ records. Some of the artists who joined in include Grammy winner Kerry Marx on lead guitar, who played in Johnny Cash’s band, and Kerry’s wife Catherine on piano and hammond b3 organ, who played recently with Willie Nelson, and tours with Reba. Also playing on the album is Andrea Zonn on fiddle, who plays in James Taylor’s band. For Kerry, Catherine, and Andrea this is the second time playing with Chris.

The ten song album ‘The SunCrashers’ is set for release on 26th February 26th, being available on all the platforms.

What are your favourite memories of writing and/or recording the album?

“There is something about being in a studio in Nashville, Tennessee with the kind of musicians that were a part of this new album. Something amazing, humbling, and downright fun. The quality of the music we created is about as good as I could have dreamed of. These are Grammy winning musicians laying down their mastery to my songs.”

“The song that really stood out among all the ten tracks was ‘Rainbow War‘, which is track four. I wrote this song just before I left to fly to Nashville and I knew it was a keeper. Once we got it into the studio, it turned into an upbeat, really rocking song that features a beautiful fiddle that makes the track particularly awesome. It turned out so well that we decided to release it as the first single, back on January 15th of this year. It is currently available to check out on all platforms. Although every song on the album is top notch, ‘Rainbow War’ is one that really stands out.”

What message do you hope your music sends to listeners? What do you hope they can take away from your songs?

“The message I envision my music will send to listeners is one of hope, strength, and love. I am all about being a positive influence on the world we live in. Ideally, people will listen to this music and say, “hey, that sounds really good”. I have listened to the full album myself a couple times and with close friends, and what I took away from it is that it actually makes you feel good to listen to it. This music, as far as I can tell, is superior quality music and I want to share that with as many people as possible, and let that light shine.”

Is there a sense of excitement or panic for this release?

“I am very excited for this release. I feel this is by far my best work of anything I have done in terms of recordings. I am particularly looking forward to getting this record out on radio. I got connected with a guy just outside of Nashville, Bill Wence, who focuses on radio promotion. It turns out he and the guitar player on the album, Kerry Marx, are friends, and it looks like it’s going to be a great opportunity to get this music out into the world on the radio and onto the Americana charts.”
