Filip Dahl (Norway) started his music career as lead guitarist in various Norwegian rock bands back in the 70s, before moving on to become a recognized engineer and record producer. He was one of the main founders and owners of the highly acclaimed and successful Trondheim based Brygga Studio during the 80s and 90s.
He took a self-imposed break from the music scene during the beginning of the new century, but has returned as a composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. This has so far resulted in three solo albums ‘Dark Angels and White Demons’ (2016), ‘A Fire Through the Night’ (2018) and ‘Translucent Dreams of an Opaque Mind’ (2020) which were composed, performed, recorded and produced by himself.
He is influenced by bands like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Kansas, Marillion and Dream Theater.
Filip released six new songs in 2021 and his musical journey continues in 2022 with the new upcoming EP release ‘Storyteller’ which will be out 30th September.
What does the album’s title reveal?
“It can be very challenging and pretty hard to release instrumental music which really grabs your audience full attention. This is of course due to the fact that you have to convey the feelings and emotions that you want to give to the listener without using words and lyrics. The title “Storyteller” is hence reflecting that I have really tried hard, on all of the seven included tracks, to tell a story that hopefully touches the heart and emotions of the listeners only through the tones of my guitars.”
What are you hoping to achieve with this release?
“I am really hoping to connect with an even broader audience with my new release. There’s so much great music released by independent artists like myself every day. This means that it is very hard to stand out in the crowd and get the attention that you want your music to have, and thereby hopefully be recognised and played frequently.”
“I would therefore like to use this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has been listening to my previous releases and to all of them who have given me so much great feedback.”
Are you planning any videos for your music?
“Yes, there will certainly be videos available for some of the tracks. I already have a video ready for the track ‘Walking Towards Eternity’ on my YouTube channel.”
“I strongly believe that videos are a great supplement to any music release, as it additionally brings both visual aspects and impressions to the listener.”
“I am making the videos myself and in close cooperation with my wife Hilde. She is responsible for photographing all scenes and clips where I am playing the various instruments.”
