New Release – Set Me Free by Ali Gilbert

Ali Gilbert is a British born self-taught singer/songwriter from Tamworth. He has been performing music since the age of 18. From his early 20’s he has written his own original material and since gone on to release his debut EP ‘Truth Be Told’ which includes five tracks including popular singles ‘Runaway‘ and ‘Only You‘ based on real life personal experiences about love rejection and mental health.

His main influences in music are artists such as Sam Fender, Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, The 1975, James Morrison and Paolo Nutini.

In 2022 Ali released ‘Run by the River’ and ‘Neon Paradise’, and earlier this year his acoustic ballad ‘If You Ever’. His new single ‘Set Me Free’ is available on 9th June.

“This song is about not being able to escape something or someone because the hold it or they have on you which keeps pulling you back in! I have based the primary context of this song upon a relationship between two people however if you scratch beneath the surface the foundations are based upon an addiction to something whereby it starts of sunshine and roses and fills a void temporarily but as time goes on can turn into something sinister which seems almost impossible to escape.”

“This release although it contains dark lyrics carries an upbeat and feel good production and almost a similar vibe to my release ‘Run By The River’ back in 2021. It has high commercial appeal and has already been picked as Track Of The Week by BBC Introducing so it’s definitely one to look out for in the near future.”

“This song like all my previous releases started with just myself and the acoustic guitar. When I came up with the chorus, I instantly knew I needed a catchy chord progression to justify the feel I wanted to achieve when listening to the song. Once I had this down I was ready for the studio whereby my fantastic producer Ben Stancombe of AMS Music Group produced mixed and mastered the track.”
