New Release – Radio by Odd Wall
Odd Wall is a producer/songwriter from London, UK. His debut album Fear is out now. His new single ‘Radio’ will be out 14th January.
What’s the song about?
“Radio is a really personal song. A good friend of mine for over 20 years Gordon ‘DJ Slipps’ Money passed away in 2017 just before Christmas, he was only 41. We used to DJ together in clubs and do radio shows together back in the pirate radio days. This song is a conversation I have with him in my head. It’s me wanting to hear his voice on the radio just one more time and how every song reminds me of him. His favourite genre of music was vocal 2 Step Garage which is why I wanted to make sure I made this was a 2 step track.”
Do the lyrics have a special meaning to you?
“100%. I had the track made and I had in my head what I wanted to say but I just I couldn’t get it down on paper. I sent the instrumental to Oggie and told him what I was feeling about what the song should say and he put that to the lyrics and melody. As soon as I heard what he wrote it brought a tear to my eye. I changed a few of the lyrics to make it more personal and then it was perfect. Them lyrics mean so much to me and to anyone that knew Slipps they will get the references straight away. On a side note it was important for me to get Oggie on this song, not only have I been a fan of his for years but all 3 of us did a radio show together back in the day and that was one of the most memorable shows I done with Slipps. For me, it was the icing on the cake.”
What are you hoping to achieve with this release?
“As selfish as it sounds, this song was a bit of therapy for me so I think I’ve already achieved what I needed to. Release wise I just hope people connect with it and spare a thought for this wonderful man the world lost. It comes with a few remixes as well which was important to me as I want this song played on the radio (excuse the pun). Shadow Of Light did an amazing job on a 2 step dub mix whilst Gary Esson made a 4/4 ‘todd style’ remix. I also added another mix to the release, a more candle light mix with strings, piano and guitar.”
