New Release – Porcelain by Eleanor Collides

Eleanor Collides is the solo project of singer, songwriter and guitarist Nick Ranga. Eleanor Collides combines several disparate influences into a unique blend of dreamy indie rock. Named after Nick’s childhood imaginary friend, Eleanor Collides started life as a lockdown project in March of 2021. After writing songs for many years Nick finally decided to record them and Eleanor Collides was born!

His new single ‘Porcelain’ is a collaboration with Cecilee.

“We met through New Artist Spotlight, a community of independent artists from all over the world that we’re both part of. We’ve never actually met in person as I live in London (UK) and Cecilee is in the US.”

How did the collaboration come about?

“We were both fans of each other’s work and had been talking about doing something together. I thought Cecilee’s piano and vocals would work really well on ‘Porcelain’ so we agreed to work together on it.

“I’d written the song and recorded a basic demo with just acoustic guitar and vocals. Cecilee then added her piano, backing vocals and arranged the strings. We then decided we wanted to have a choir in the chorus so we worked with producer extraordinaire, and fellow NAS member, Andres Guazzelli who helped us get the sound we wanted.”

What’s the song about?

“It’s a song about longing, regret and unrequited love. It’s a collaboration with Cecilee who provided some gorgeous piano, strings and backing vocals. It’s about watching someone from across a room and hoping they notice you.”

Is it autobiographical?

“In a way, but you know I’m never that literal. There’s a lot of personal stuff gone into the song, but I always like the listener to come to their own conclusions.”

When did you write it?

“This song is another that came from the February Album Writing Month (fawm.org) challenge I did in 2022. The challenge is to write 14 songs in 28 days which I managed to do. It was very liberating to just write songs without worrying if they were any good. I have since learned that writing the songs is a fairly quick process, but recording and releasing them takes a lot longer!”

‘Porcelain’ is out 2nd June. pre-save here.
