New Release – Supernova (EP) by Mulholland Jive
Mulholland Jive is an instrumental funk-rock band led by Irish musician Ben Mulholland, a multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Cambridge (UK).
Mulholland Jive’s debut EP ‘Intergalactic’ was released in April 2021 and has been streamed over 20,000 times since. The tracks ‘Adrenaline Junkie’ and ‘Levitate’ are currently in the semi finals of the UK Songwriting Contest. ‘Levitate’ was also nominated for Track Of The Year at the NMG Awards and finished in the top five.
The follow-up EP ‘Supernova’ will be out 4th February.
How would you describe the EP?
“It sounds like what getting a star in Mario Kart feels like! It is an adrenaline-fuelled mix of blistering solos, infectious rhythms and stuck-in-your-head-all-day riffs.”
Does the whole EP fit into a particular musical genre, or does it borrow from multiple forms?
“Like all the Mulholland Jive tunes, there isn’t one specific genre that the music on this EP fits into perfectly. It combines elements of funk, rock, blues and jazz. ‘Bad Moon Rising’ was described as ‘psychedelic thrash funk’ which seems like a fitting way of describing my music!”
What movie should feature your music and why?
“I’m a massive Star Wars geek so any of the Star Wars films would be ideal! As well my music having sci-fi titles (Intergalactic, Hyperspace, Supernova) they all have a lively and OTT sound that would be an ideal soundtrack for the epic spaceship battles in outer space that happen in the films. And Han Solo would definitely have a tune like Power Up playing on the Millennium Falcon’s stereo.”
