What Does the EP’s Title Reveal?

“This EP is a follow up to last year’s ‘Winter Stories’ so the title tells you everything you need to know. I so enjoyed writing songs on the theme of winter for the first EP, so I just wrote more.”

“Winter is such a magical season – the season of our imagination, when the cold and dark is transformed by snowfall into a beautiful world of haunting landscapes and atmospheres. There’s a primal spirit around the winter months and the solstice. There are the lights of Christmas and the long dark nights when traditionally families would sit around fires and tell stories to get them through the cold evenings.”

“These songs are based around narrative storytelling – lost characters walking snow filled streets, ghosts in dark corners and the magic of the festive season.”

How long did it take you to write and the record the EP?

“The songs for the EP were written and recorded during the winters of 2021 & 2022 when my recording studio was a warm sanctuary from the cold outside. I live in the north of England where winter can be harsh and the light fades from around mid-October, so hibernating in the studio is a real comfort. During those cold months and as part of my writing process I’d often take long walks on
the moor with the pale sun hanging low in the sky – nature is such an inspiration.”

What message do you hope your music sends to listeners? What do you hope they can take away from your songs?

“Hopefully the songs portray the atmosphere of wintertime – snowy streets, log fires, cosy winter pubs where you can hide away from the frost. The overall message however is one of renewal and hope. The magic of winter is that when everything appears dead, we know that spring is just around the corner when all will burst into life again – a re-birth. Even in the bleakest, darkest mid-winter the Earth turns on it’s axis and we head towards the spring as the sun climbs higher in the sky. The songs are, in a way, a celebration of the solstice, which is etched in our collective imaginations, a time our ancestors understood all too well – a time for reflection & renewal. Come in out of the cold, pour yourself a hot drink, sit by the fire and listen to my winter stories.”
