New Release – Midnight Masquerade (album) by Kit Citrine

Kit Citrine (they/she) is a dynamic indie pop/rock singer, songwriter, and music producer from Orlando (USA). Audiences call Kit “a powerhouse with a strong voice and a stronger message” whose music is “raw emotion mixed with poetic and clever imagery”. From high-energy ear worms to somber yet hopeful anthems of self-actualization, Kit writes honest, vulnerable music that speaks to your soul.

Kit Citrine’s debut album ‘Midnight Masquerade’ will be released on 16th September. The first single from the album, also titled ‘Midnight Masquerade’ was released during LGBTQIA+ pride month. The second single ‘Hollow’ was released in August.

How would you describe the album?

“An autobiographical emotional roller coaster. ‘Midnight Masquerade’ (the single) sets the tone, and then the album follows my life chronologically from the start of the pandemic through the aftermath of my dad’s death earlier this year. It goes through all the ups and downs of life. So much changed for me and I am not the same person who went into lockdown in 2020. I don’t shy away from tackling concepts like grief, anxiety, depression, conversations about my sexuality and gender identity, and the fears I felt during that time. It’s all there in the album.”

Do you have a favorite song on the album? Which one and why is it your favourite?

“My favourite song on the album is ‘Hollow’. The melody and lyrics perfectly encapsulate my feelings right after my dad died, and the song was truly my lifeline. When I’d be having a particularly bad grief day, I’d listen to the song on repeat and sob in a cathartic way.”

“My two honorable mentions are ‘The House Remains the Same’ – which I wrote to express my story about my gender identity – and ‘Astonishing Autumn’ a song of regret, remorse, and nostalgia looking back at a relationship that never had the chance to be when I was a younger person in a different time.”

What message do you hope your music sends to listeners? What do you hope they can take away from your songs?

“There are a few things. I hope my music empowers the people who listen to it, that the triumphant songs uplift you, the sad songs bring you comfort, and the songs about discovering who you are and going through hard times help you feel like you’re not alone in doing the same. The tracks can seem somewhat disparate as they cover different subject matter and cross genres, but their common thread is hope and humanity at their core. That’s what I hope listeners will take away.”
