New Release – I Never Needed Anyone by Maisy Grace
Maisy Grace is a 18-year old Cornish singer-songwriter. Equally comfortable with piano, guitar or bass, Maisy Grace has been making waves around the South West and beyond, as ‘Sidelines’ her debut EP, received airplay from BBC Introducing South West and Radio 6 Music’s Tom Robinson.
Her new single ‘I Never Needed Anyone’ is out 3rd March. A pre-save is available.
“This track was inspired by someone close to me who made me appreciate the value of accepting help and what we all do for each other as humans. I am someone who is pretty set on taking things on alone, so it helps me look back and realise that it’s not the end of the world to let someone in.”
“I am mostly hoping that this track reaches a new audience for me, I reckon the message in the song could resonate with many people. I would really love to get to the point where new people start knowing my songs as that always makes me feel very happy. The feeling when you are playing live and your audience is singing the lyrics back to you is pretty special – I’d love to get to that.”
“I work with a London based producer called Kouncilhouse, so this track, as well as the others that will be coming after it have all been recorded between his studio up in London and mine down here in Cornwall. I wrote and recorded the vocals and then sent them off to him to work with. He is such a great producer and I definitely wouldn’t be doing any of this without him.”
“Kouncilhouse was on the radar for maybe a year or two before we actually came together to start creating, just from my mum casually playing his songs in DJ sets. He had mentioned working together but it was never the right time as I was in college doing my A-Levels and didn’t have a lot of time. Once I finished we finally managed to start trying out some stuff and wrote ‘Circles’ which came out just before Christmas. I love the process so he kept sending me songs to write and it just worked so well so we decided to release an album. ‘I Never Needed Anyone’ is the first single to be released from this.”
“Kouncilhouse and I have a great deal where he makes a track and I write and record the vocals to send off to him to produce. I am having such a great time making music with him and I hope we can work together in the future.”
“I love releasing songs because it gives me a chance to show people how much I, and my music has changed since the last time I put it out there. It has been a long time since everyone has listened to new music from me which just makes me massively excited for ‘I Never Needed Anyone’ as I think it shows how much I have evolved as a musician.”
“I don’t have any memories in particular, but my favourite writing experiences are the ones that actually work! I go through periods of writing loads, then not being able to write anything at all and it just gets frustrating. I think this must be common with everything creative and I need to learn how to accept the fact that I should wait until it feels right. I’m not the most patient person though so I doubt that will happen anytime soon!”
