New Release – High Up by The Drop Downs
The Drop Downs fuse heartfelt lyrics with tight rhythms, creating deliciously uplifting grooves. The Aylesbury (UK) indie band was formed in 2016 by singer David Clark and guitarist Bill Randall, who were old school friends. Their first single ‘High Up’ is available from 1st September 2023. A pre-save is available here.
What’s the song about?
“Bill, the band’s guitarist, was writing about people he’d come across who have that ability to shrug off adversity. The ones who don’t dwell on the lows and always look to the future and stay positive. In particular, one girl who was hassled a lot about COVID-19 because of her Asian appearance. They couldn’t touch her. She was above them in so many ways.”
What’s your favourite memory of recording?
“The ease of it all. It was the band’s first recording session together but everything was nailed in a couple of takes. The drummer, Jim, had a very clear idea of how he wanted to record and put his parts down over a home demo Bill had made. Then Rob added bass, Bill did guitars, and Dave sang his lead vocal. The backing vocals we all had a hand in. The producer (and our new friend), Steve White enabled the slickness of the session. His abilities and suggestions were key. As was his wife’s cooking.”
What are you hoping to achieve with this release?
“We want to be heard. A single release has been a long time coming, and although the attention we’ve had from gigging has been really positive, we’ve had nowhere to point new fans towards. We’re grateful to people like yourself, Lean, for helping us get the word out. Hopefully people will like the single.”
