New Release – Friday Night Rockstar (album) by Lewca

Lewca is a now forty-something bloke from Brixton living in Normandy (France) with three kids, a mortgage and a day job.

“My main challenge in life is juggling my pre-disposition with substance abuse, my ambitions of musical world domination and my day to day obligations, and still find time to make cool stuff out of lego with the kids.”

His new album ‘Friday Night Rockstar’ it is out 16th December and there is a pre-save available here.

Does the whole album fit into a particular musical genre, or does it borrow from
multiple forms?

“I’ve always been a genre bender and this album is no different. With my partner in crime S.O.A.P. we wanted to create an 80’s – 90’s vibe to the project, it’s like a road map of all the different genres that influenced us growing up.”

What message do you hope your music sends to listeners? What do you hope they can take away from your songs?

“I try to tell my own story through my songs, but I do try to make them relatable in the hope that people will connect with the tunes and take away some kind of positive. I have actually had a number of people reach out and tell me that my song has helped them in some way, which is about as good as it gets as a reward for a songwriter. I guess if there was an overall message, it would be “it’s ok to be flawed, no one is perfect, and if we are honest with ourselves, our imperfections are often what make us beautiful”.”

If it is self-produced: is it important for you to have control over all aspects of a project?

“That’s an interesting question, I’ve done a few collabs this year and imho the loss of control is an essential part of the creative progress, and although it can be frustrating that the end result or aspects of the song doesn’t « sound » the way you would have imagined, it also adds the creative prowess and artistic perspective of your partner to the mix which is always an opportunity to be pleasantly surprised. In regards to working with music industry types, the song ‘Gaslight’ was released with a label and publisher, which is a first for me… and I do admit not doing any promo whatsoever was extremely comfortable.”
