New Release – Fear (album) by Odd Wall

Odd Wall is a producer/songwriter from London, UK. His debut album ‘Fear’ is out on Friday 1st October. A pre-save link can be found here.

How would you describe the album?

“Fear is basically me making songs that I’ve always wanted to make with no limits. I said to myself from the start that it’s not going to be genre specific, whatever i’m feeling on a certain day is what’s going on the album. Growing up I was heavily into hip hop, r&b and garage so all these genres have had a massive influence on this album. I’m really not sure the best way to describe it , I’ve just tried to be honest and have as much fun as I could making it whilst also touching some personal feelings I have.”

Did you have to overcome any difficulties with the writing or recording of this release?

“Oh yes, quite a few. Most of this album was all written and recorded during lockdown so everything was done remotely with all the artists that featured. In fact I only managed to get in the studio with one of them, which was the last track that got completed. It does make it harder to get on the same page when you’re in two different places and a lot of the time in 2 different time zones. So I’d send the instrumental to someone and they are 5 hours behind or 5 hours ahead then they would send back an idea at a time more convenient for them but it would be 3 am here so you couldn’t catch that vibe together at the same time and what could’ve been done in a day would then take a week.”

“Also during the process of this album my son was born and unfortunately he had to spend the first 2 months of his life in the intensive care unit which halted the album completely at the time. When we finally got him home it was then a battle to try and find the time to record songs with a baby in the house. Luckily for me though I managed to record some of his babbling and put it on a song.”

What are you hoping to achieve with this release?

“Honestly, I just wanted to leave something for my children to be proud of once I’m gone. I caught covid at the start of 2020 and was pretty bad for a few weeks, after I recovered it just made me think about things in a different way. That’s when I started making music again (as I had given up in 2014). It’s like it lit a fire inside me and I’ve been consumed by it this whole time. If this album inspires just one person in a positive way then I’d be happy.”
