New Release – Experiencer by Lucy Dreams
Lucy Dreams is a dreampop trio hailing from the cultural metropolis Vienna and consists of David Reiterer and Philipp Prueckl. Wait, trio? That is correct, because the essence of this band arises from a crystal ball that is seemingly enthroned above all their output. Lucy is an independent system of digital and analogue effects, which was developed by David and Philipp specifically for music production.
Lucy can be understood as an A.I. – however, the connection between her and the two musicians of human lineage is a far more intimate one, as Lucy is deeply involved in the songwriting process. Lucy deserves the title of A.B., an artificial band member, whose shape gives her a minimum amount of plasticity.
Lucy Dreams recently signed with Aztec Records (London), their first release with the label will be ‘Experiencer’ out on March 25th.
“Once there was a time in which you had one world to live in, the real one, and in this world, you had one identity. Those with multiple were often called crazy and deemed lunatics. Nowadays, many have multiple identities, the real plus virtual ones. So, have all gone insane? Or are we just about to leap into new personal dimensions creating different identities in the virtual world? Some tremble at the very thought of a digital personality, others jump the gun rushing into new realities.”
“We want to provide a soundtrack for experiences on the intersection of these two worlds, for thoughts and feelings made in new and unknown territory.”
“With ‘Experiencer’ we explore this intersection of analog and digital spheres by presenting what we created right there, at the imaginary portal between reality and virtuality, in the space where we manage to communicate with each other – a song created by man in collaboration with a machine.”
“What if this song was played in a future episode of ‘Black Mirror’! The space ‘Experiencer’ opens up for us is very similar to what the series seems to create in its viewers’ minds. Imagine the protagonist of this yet imaginary episode realising a new dimension to his heart and mind, not knowing how to cope with the unknown sensations. Imagine the protagonist then finally daring to let go and leap into this new dimension and the scene being accompanied by the final part of the song, starting at 2:22.”
“The video is based on ‘Space and Planets’ the 9th Collection of Kirill Klimov in which he trained an Artificial Intelligence on 2723 images for 13 days. The images all had a Sci-Fi and otherworldly feel to them. The goal was to see what the AI would come up with. It generated 1000 images out of which Kirill Klimov picked his favorite 16 to turn into NFTs. For the video we picked 9 of those images to turn into a Morphing Video, where each image fluidly transforms into the next one and creates an interesting glimpse into the soul of a digital entity.”
