New Release – Electric Box by the Gastown Panic

The Gastown Panic are a Glasgow (Scotland) based band that have been making music together for a long time. They are a duo since 2017. In 2020 they won best Indie-Pop act at the Radio Wigwam online awards and have since started their own fortnightly show on the station.

Their new latest single ‘Electric Box’ is out today.

“It’s a bit gothy, very electronic and possibly a little camp. We think it’s a pretty cool track. As much as it wears its 80s influences firmly on its silky sleeves across the verses, there’s a little 90s dance in the chorus for those who enjoy some of that – and some great harmonies if we do say so ourselves. It’s a bit of a natural progression from the electronic route we explored on the ‘Panic!’ album although quite a bit different from those tracks.”

“At the end of the writing and recording of the ‘Panic!’ album, we still had a number of songs that were either half-ready or we wanted to take some time to decide what to do with them next. Some of those are still in that place, and some are songs that we’re building on with guitars and bass as we work towards a third album. We had three songs that we’d built using keyboard, loops, drum patterns, samples and other interesting noises and when we added the vocals they stood up really well. That’s where the idea to release three stand-alone singles came from. We released the first single ‘Something For The Weekend’ in June, so this is the second of three. ‘The Dollar & The Pound’ will come out in December.

“The cover art is a cropped picture of the electric box at the end of my street. Sometimes you just have to be literal and see what happens. The song doesn’t have any deep, spiritual or political meaning to us but maybe someone will find something in it. So the artwork seems apt somehow.”
