New Release – Another Love Song by BlackSheepLad

Singer-songwriter Phil Mellen from North West England is BlackSheepLad. In the past Phil played and sang in various bands to little success, so he settled into a successful 25 year career in education.

In March 2020 he became ill with Covid and this led to some ongoing health issues and redundancy. The period of imposed isolation and inactivity lead to a burst of songwriting inspired by lockdown, love, mortality and binge – watching zombie TV programmes! Thus far he has released two EPs ‘Sleeping Alone in the Daytime’ and ‘Badly Made’ as well as four singles.

His single is called ‘Another Love Song’ and will be out on all streaming platforms on March 25th. There is no pre-save but there is a teaser.

“The song was written when I was talking about subjects for songs and said that I had ‘done love’. My wife pointed out that you can never complete love so I wrote this song to make up for my mistake!”

“The song was recorded and mixed at Bakehouse Studios in Accrington and I am grateful to Kev Farrell who plays guitar on the track. I played everything else.”

“It is the lead single ahead of my debut album ‘Love Songs and Laments’ which will be released in May this year and hopefully it gives you a taste of what is to come.”

Phil sings and plays guitar, drums, keys, bass and various ukuleles. His influences include John Bramwell, Prefab Sprout, Doves, Badly Drawn Boy, Ben Folds, Elbow, Cherry Ghost, Lloyd Cole and Neil Finn.
