New Release – 100 Doors by Joe Peacock
Joe Peacock is a prolific singer-songwriter from Birmingham (UK). Lockdown has made him write more songs than ever before. Joe released his second album ‘Before the robots told us where to go’ in December 2021. He’s hoping to release three different albums in 2022.
The first single ‘100 Doors’ of his third album will be out on April 8th. A pre-save is available here.
What inspired you to write this song?
“It’s a song about seeking answers and about trying to take lessons from the past in order to understand what’s happening now better. If you’ve listened to my other songs, you’ll get why that’s something relevant to me.”
“I read about the Cumaean Sibyl, who is one of the most famous prophetesses of ancient legend and I really liked the poetic nature of her story, so I took that idea and based the song around it.”
Is this release different from your previous releases?
“I have tried to be quite diverse with my sound over the releases I’ve done so far, but this certainly doesn’t sound like anything else I’ve put out. Before I wrote the lyrics when I just had the music recorded, it was saved as “dark disco”, so although it’s got a funky bassline and beat, there’s a kind of brooding feel to it. The music’s quite stark and simple, but it also has a guitar solo, so it’s sticking to a certain formula that’s worked for me before.”
Why did you decide to release this song as a first single?
“I’ve had some great feedback from listeners so far. I decided to ask Twitter to help me pick my next single from four demos that I put on a private playlist. I think about 80% of the people I asked decided this was the best one, so who am I to argue!”
“I think it does work well as a bridge between the last album and the next one. The songs for the next album are much less guitar driven and more electronic/synth based, so this has elements of both. I haven’t abandoned the guitar – I’ll come back to it on the album after this one!”
