Dean Dovey – Shoot For The Moon
Dean Dovey, an indie singer/songwriter from Birmingham (UK) now residing in Tamworth, is due to release his first single since the release of his debut album ‘Journey To The Sun’ back in December 2022. His upcoming single ‘Shoot For The Moon’ is a step away from the guitar based album, taking inspiration from 80s Bowie and The Pet Shop Boys resulting in a dance/funk beat with the dramatics of the finest of cinematic movie scores.
“This song was out of the same batch of songs I’d written for my debut album. It started as a guitar based indie track but it never felt right and I kinda knew it had to be different. I’m a massive fan of 80s music and so I slowed it down a touch and changed the delivery of the vocal. My producer, Jason Edwards, and I started to experiment with 80s beats and sounds and ended up with a Bowie/Pet Shop Boys mashup mixed with my indie roots.”
“Hopefully my wish will come true and James Bond’s Moonraker from 1979 will be remade with my track on the opening credits. Now that would be ace!”
“Just like my debut album ‘Journey To The Sun’ this song was recorded at Jason Edward’s (lead Guitarist of Wolfsbane) Majestic Splendour studio. We usually manage to get the majority of a track recorded in a days session but this track took at least three – this was way more complex to do in one session. We also wanted a professional sax player so up stepped Adam Stevens with his super talent. Adam had recently been part of the brass section for Stone Foundation touring the globe and was also doing great things with his Amy Winehouse tribute band. As soon as he played the first few notes in the studio he blew us away. Toot Toot.”
‘Shoot For The Moon’ is out 5th April. A pre-save is available here.
